This is the last of the RING CYCLES to be performed by the Metropolitan Opera during its 2008-2009 Season and the last time this classic production will be staged by the Met. The performances will be conducted by James Levine with leading roles sung by Wendy Bryn Harmer, Yvonne Naef, Jill Grove, Kim Begley, Gerhard Siegel, James Morris, Richard Paul Fink, René Pape, John Tomlinson, Adrianne Pieczonka, Lisa Gasteen, Plácido Domingo, Jon Fredric West, Margaret Jane Wray, Iain Paterson. This famous staging was produced by Otto Schenk, with sets and projections designed by Günther Schneider-Siemssen, costumes by Rolf Langenfass and lighting by Gil Wechsler.
At some point during the week, we will offer a backstage tour of the Metropolitan Opera House – a fascinating experience. Schedules for these tours have not as yet been released for next season, but all tour guests will be advised about the time of this event well in advance.

Monday, May 4
Independent arrivals at the PARK LANE HOTEL on Central Park South. Welcome reception and dinner at the hotel. In preparation for RING CYCLE performances, tour director and noted opera lecturer, Arthur Kaplan, will give a talk on the genesis and interpretation of Wagner’s monumental masterwork.
This evening: Wagner’s DAS RHEINGOLD (Metropolitan Opera - 8:00 PM). The cast: Wendy Bryn Harmer, Yvonne Naef, Jill Grove, Kim Begley, Gerhard Siegel, James Morris, Richard Paul Fink, René Pape, John Tomlinson; James Levine conducts.
Tuesday, May 5
Morning and afternoon at leisure. A whole day to spend as you wish before enjoying this evening’s performance at the Met.
This evening: Wagner’s DIE WALKÜRE (Metropolitan Opera - 6:00 PM). The cast: Lisa Gasteen, Adrianne Pieczonka, Yvonne Naef, Plácido Domingo, James Morris, René Pape; James Levine conducts.
Wednesday, May 6
Today is at leisure. This is Wednesday, a chance to attend a matinee or an evening performance on Broadway. Dailey-Thorp can assist you in obtaining any Broadway tickets you wish.
OPTIONAL PERFORMANCE: Rossini’s LA CENERENTOLA. (Metropolitan Opera – 8:00 PM). The cast: Elina Garanca, Lawrence Brownlee, Simone Alberghini, Alessandro Corbelli, John Relyea; Maurizio Benini conducts. The deposit required to hold space on this tour is $2,000.00 per person.
Please note: The tour price includes $1,000.00 for the RING tickets, the face value of the tickets as established by the Metropolitan Opera in March 2008. This price includes a tax-deductible contribution to the Metropolitan Opera in the total amount of $400.00 for each set of RING tickets. For your records, this tax-deductible amount will appear on the tickets which will be presented to you on the first night of the tour in New York. You may wish to keep them for tax purposes.

The Wagner Society of New York will offer a series of lectures about the Ring. All Dailey-Thorp tour guests will be invited to subscribe to this series; details and price will be announced later this year.

DEPOSITS and FINAL PAYMENT may be made by personal check in US Dollars or credit card. Full payment due 60 days prior to the start of the tour.
TOUR INCLUSIONS: Deluxe accommodations at the Park Lane Hotel for 6 nights; orchestra balance (side orchestra, full view) tickets; 1 lunch, 2 dinners; private transfers to and from all scheduled events when required; a backstage tour of the Metropolitan Opera House; services of an experienced Dailey-Thorp tour director. Tips to the Dailey-Thorp tour director as well as for all other group services. Not included: air fare, tips upon individual arrivals and departures as well as to the hotel chambermaids.
PRIVATE AIRPORT TRANSFERS: If you wish a car and driver to meet you at any of the New York airports, please let us know so that we can arrange this service for you. Taxis are usually plentiful at all airports.
HOTEL INFORMATION: Please note that bookings received less than 30 days prior to the commencement of the tour will be subject to hotel availability.
ADDITIONAL NIGHTS: Should you wish to add extra nights at the hotel in New York -- before and/or after your tour -- Dailey-Thorp will book these extra nights for you. Prices on request.
CANCELLATION OF TOUR: The price of the Ring Cycle tickets ($1,000.00), once purchased, is not refundable unless the tickets can be resold. For cancellation by the client, these charges will apply: Cancellations received 60 days or more prior to tour commencement = $200.00 per person; 59-31 days prior = 50% of land arrangements price; less than 31 days prior =100% of land arrangements price; no appearance/no written notice = 100% of the land arrangements price. No refunds will be made for any part of the tour package, such as sightseeing, meals, performances or transfers, which are voluntarily omitted by any tour member; the tour is sold as a package. We must strictly adhere to our cancellation policy to offset costs incurred prior to the commencement of the tour. All cancellations must be in writing. All tour programs are subject to change by the operator.
TRIP INSURANCE: WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND TRIP CANCELLATION INSURANCE. An application will be included with our acknowledgment of your reservation. We suggest that you apply for it as soon as possible after signing up for a tour. Should it become necessary for you to cancel due to illness (but not business reasons) the policy may cover your losses (subject to insurance terms).
